One woman's trash, is another woman's treasure

Found these old Christmas houses and mirror at a garage sale for $8.00 . Thought I'd try turning them into something a little more me.

Receipt Pocket Binder

The bought a 12" x 12" paper pad of DCWV Chalkboard paper that I dearly love.  After having it for a while, I realized I would never use it for a layout because it wouldn't work with any photos I wanted to scrap.  I love these papers so much I knew I should use it on something I could look at often.  I decided to make myself a pocket carrier for my purse to put receipts and coupons in.  In measures 4.5" x 7" and was very simple to make. The cardstock is so thick it is very durable without the use of chipboard.  I cut out 4.5" x 7" pieces for however many pages I wanted and then cut out that many again (same size) for the pockets.  Take the pieces that will be used for pockets and score them at 3.5". Fold at score line and place scored line over bottom of page (creates a pocket on both sides of page). Adhere right side of pocket to page. Repeat for all pages. Make a front and back cover. I then used my Cinch to bind it with 5/8" wire.

Most regretted project!

I came up with the wild item of making seven advent calendars for my grand nieces and nephews. Wow did this ever turn into a huge project. Here are the steps, remember X7.

1. Paint each calendar (x7). The problem here is the paper mache sucked up the paint therefore causing each to be painted multiple times and requiring much more paint than I anticipated. Painting each included painting the inside of square and painting the outside and inside of each drawer itself (x7). That is painting 175 drawers.

2. Using my paper trimmer and cardstock, I cut 175 drawer fronts and then used a circle punch to cut out the half circle.  I then glued on the 175 drawer fronts.

3. I painted 175 drawer knobs and glue one onto each drawer.

4. Using my Cricut, I cut out these teeny tiny numbers (which I ran through my Xyron) to adhere to the drawers.

5. I then went to the internet and searched for 25 corny kid jokes, all pertaining to Christmas. Using Word,  I typed the questions out on one side and the answer on the other side.  I printed them out and cut them into strips with my paper cutter.  I placed a joke in each drawer.

6. I searched for the story behind the advent calendar, printed it out and adhered it to the back of the calendar.

7. Lastly I went shopping for all the goodies to put inside each drawer. (ok, that part was kinda fun)

Altered Wine Box

I picked up this wine box at a garage sale for 25 cent and altered it into something more beautiful.

Flags Across America

Here is my mini album "Flags Across America". This is an album made up of photos taken in various cities across the United States.  I had just started this album when I noticed Scrapbook.com was having a mini album challenge for the month of May.  The challenge required ten complete pages including photos. I submitted my first ten pages but plan on making this a 25 page album to include 50 photos.  There are few things more beautiful than the American flag and this album will allow me to showcase my photos. 

Vintage TV Photo Frame

When I first seen the new Vintage TV Photo frames by Prima, I fell in love. I surprise myself because I never use to like antique or vintage looking things. Things changed when I did my first Tim Holtz configuration box last year. Here is the first or two that I will be completing.

This photo is my mom & sibling's passport picture from 1960.  This will be a gift for my sister.

My restored trunk

Here are the pictures I promised of my 1st attempt at restoring anything.  I bought this trunk at a garage sale for $10.00 having no idea what to do with it.  After doing a lot of online research, I decided that I wanted to refinish it using crackle.  I went and bought all my supplies and then took my time on each step.  I am so happy with how it turned out.  After finishing it, I realized that it is the perfect size for storing all my completed 12 x 12 scrapbooking albums.
